John Astin

To watch a video of John Astin speaking (and singing) at the Inside Edge, click on the link on John's webpage: http://www.integrativearts.com/writings.html  in order to view the video you'll have to log-in for a one-day free trial to access the Inside Edge Video Library.

Jeff Foster has written a few words about John's book, This is Always Enough:

"John Astin writes with great clarity and compassion about the One Life beyond the myriad forms, the Unity behind the endless coming and going of things, the Unconditional Love that embraces the Yin and the Yang of this exquisite dream world. And yet, as John's simple yet powerful writings express beautifully, the One is not separate from this world, but is completely infused into it, so that the very ordinary things of life are in fact already perfect expressions of the Divine. And when the endless seeking of the mind is not there, it can be seen with utter clarity: This is always enough.

This book is a joy. Dip into it again and again, and be reminded that the unconditional love you seek is already with you, closer than your heartbeat, closer than breathing, closer than the most perfect lover. John's words point clearly to your true nature, a nature that you never lost, a nature that perhaps has been obscured for a while by the incessant seeking of the mind. This book is a gift from Self to Self, a communication from Clarity to Clarity, and its gentle power will resonate long after you've put it down. I recommend it highly."

Beyond Awakening by Jeff Foster is No.1 on the bestseller list at Watkins Books* for November and December

For those that haven't already been there, Watkins books is well worth a visit. Staffed by knowledgeable enthusiasts, it is the oldest and best esoteric bookshop in the U.K. The latest edition of their tri-quarterly magazine, The Watkins Review, features articles by Jeff Foster and John Wheeler.

*Watkins Books, 19 Cecil Court, Charing Cross Road, London, WC2N 4EZ
http://www.watkinsbooks.com/index.html

Another mention for the audio reading by Terence Stamp of Perfect Brilliant Stillness which was the surprise bestseller at Silksoundbooks* for November. Silkksounds now have a gift voucher system, 'the perfect gift for any occasion!' they tell us.

“… towards the end of Desert Island Discs, participants are asked to choose a book.. if I were asked today, Perfect Brilliant Stillness would be my tome of choice.”  Terence Stamp

Two new books from Non-Duality Press

The Great Undoing by Stuart Schwartz

A book of aphorisms and observations by Stuart Schwartz.  His website can be found here: http://www.satsangwithstuart.com/

A recent Amazon.com review below:

A unique source for laser-like reflections, December 11, 2007
Review by R. W. (West Orange, NJ)

“True to its perspective and message, this short book of aphorisms does not engage the reader's mind with explanation, argument, or analysis. The introduction by the author is the only context provided for the pristine insights and observations making up the body of the book. Rather than a shortcoming, this presentation, that is the simplicity and directness with which the words and thoughts are expressed, was felt by this reviewer to make its reflections all the more powerful.

For those interested in having laser-like reflections to help identify and dissolve the deepest assumptions and habitual beliefs they have about the world and who they are, this book is a unique source. And it is in that dissolution, that great undoing, that we find resolution to the question posed by the author in his introduction: "Why can't I get to some state of balance, be content and stay there?”

Nobody Home: From Belief to Clarity
Jan Kersschot

We are pleased to re-issue Jan's previously out-of-print book, Nobody Home.
If you missed it the first time around, I recommend this book from Jan, his own insights and experiences and a (headless) nod to the experiments by Douglas Harding. A worthwhile companion to The Myth of Self-Enquiry.

Both books available form the Purchase Page.

November 2007

NEW!

A 2 CD set of Jeff Foster's talk in Hebden Bridge.

In this 2-CD set (recorded August 2007 in Yorkshire, UK) Jeff Foster speaks clearly and directly about nonduality and the search for spiritual enlightenment. Words are used to point back to the Freedom that is always already present, right in the midst of life, but which is apparently ignored by the mind in its desperate search for "something more".

In these meetings, the idea of a "me" separate from "life" is never entertained, and in a playful atmosphere of absolute and unconditional acceptance, there is a resonance which is beyond all words, beyond all concepts, beyond all thought. It is a direct confrontation with your own absence.

The talk on this CD begins with an introduction to nonduality, and then there is an extended question-and-answer session. However, the answers are never in the words, and as Jeff points out time and time again, there is nothing here on offer here for a seeking mind. But in that nothing, that No-Thing, there is a freedom and a release that the "individual" could never hope to grasp. Welcome to Life Without A Centre.

October 2007

Audio reading of Perfect Brilliant Stillness

The actor Terence Stamp has finished recording an unabridged reading of Perfect Brilliant Stillness by David Carse and I thought this recording might be of interest to you all.  It's a beautiful production and a fluent and heartfelt reading which loses none of the meaning or nuances of the book.

Silksoundbooks is a new venture producing high quality recordings of classic books by noted actors for download in mp3 format for ipods and computers.

More info here: http://www.silksoundbooks.com/home.aspx
and here: http://www.silk.co.uk/terencestamp.html

The recording is endorsed by Non-Duality Press and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

August 2007

Just published

This is Always Enough
John Astin

Release date: August 3rd 2007

A beautiful book of poetry, verses & aphorisms by John Astin.

Also available, a limited number of copies of John's CD, Already Shining

Gloria Lee, one of the compilers of Nondual Highlights said of the album:

"How can music be more than music? When it offers satsang with the music; as music. The songs of John Astin are just that, a place of peace you can fall into and that will stay with you long after the sound fades away. He pulls you into listening deeply with your heart, and takes you deeper and deeper into the heart of presence itself. With an unhurried pace, somewhat reminiscent of folk ballads, and an underlying tone of exuberant joyfulness, this is the voice of someone already at home calling you to come in from the storm. Along with what the words say, the tone of the music conveys presence, peace, happiness, clarity of awareness. John's voice is very mellow and gentle, and he sings the words with great tenderness. The quality of musicianship is excellent, too. A lifelong classical guitarist himself, John's arrangements are enhanced by piano, cello, drums, and harmony vocals. Two of the songs in this album are based on poems by Adyashanti, and his own writing is simply exquisite. This album was recorded live, and includes his signature song, "Love, Serve, and Remember". Impossible for me to choose a favorite, yet "Fall in Love with Now" seems especially unforgettable. Listen, and spread the joy."

The open discussions are very informal and there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions, if questions arise. There is usually a tea/coffee break usually about half way through. Throughout the talk, words point back time and time again to the utterly obvious:
the entire spiritual search rests on the assumption that
there's a separate individual who seeks....

Living Truth
Jean Klein

In the late 1980s Jean Klein was invited to give seminars in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. In this isolated, peaceful mountain setting, a small group of students gathered with their life questions. The conversations of the 1988 seminar were transcribed and printed as a pamphlet entitled Mount Madonna Dialogues, but it was felt that the contents of all of the seminars were rich and rewarding enough to be gathered into a more substantial publication. 'Living Truth' is the result.

In his well known, clear and lucid style, Jean Klein offers a book that is fundamentally about ourselves, about our own reality, and how we can start to realise our true nature, our inner stillness and wholeness.

Unique among Jean Klein’s works, the dialogues contained in this book have been organised by subject. Topics include: Relationship; The Nature of Thinking; The Art of Listening; A conversation on Art, etc.

Be Who You Are
J
ean Klein
Translated by Mary Mann

Be Who You Are is one of the earliest published books of dialogues with Jean Klein. Written in the lucid and eloquent style which characterises his work, each chapter is composed of an introductory discourse followed by questions and answers.

The ‘eternal present’, our theme in these meetings, lies within the depth of ourselves. It is the eternal awareness of the Self.

Seen from the Ultimate, the world projected by the mind appears and disappears, in other words, it “becomes”. When we talk of time and space, it must be thoroughly understood that their reality is relative, it is a reality in the world of becoming. But beyond space-time is that stillness which knows no becoming.”

Jean Klein, master of Advaita Vedanta in the tradition of Ramana Maharshi and Atmananda Krishna Menon and author of many books on non-dualism, spent several years in India going deeply into the subjects of Advaita and Yoga. In 1955 the truth of non-dualism became a living reality. From 1960 he taught in Europe and later in the United States.
